These bowls have been hand carved by skilled Kenyan artisans from the Akamba tribe. The Akamba tribe are re-known to be skillful carvers. Traditionally, they carved from hard woods but with tradition now fading away and and education sipping in the villages they are learning the importance of preservation and are now learning to carve using olive wood, a local soft wood. These artisans are based in Kibwezi, a town three hours away from the capital city Nairobi. production of this product provides employment for many.
