The 10 Steps of Sourcing New Baskets

Sourcing new handmade baskets from Africa isn't always easy. Sometimes you have to literally go to great lengths to find them. Our soon-to-be-released collection was months in the making, and here's how we did it:

1. Going down the rabbit hole on Google

2. Finding someone in our community who knows someone halfway across the country

3. Getting the mobile number of this person and calling until they acknowledge your existence

4. Messaging back and forth for moths, convincing them we're not fraudsters

5. Traveling for six-hours on the day of mass protests across the country

6. Sitting for 15 minutes on the back of a motorbike up and down a rocky trail and over a river where someone might have squealed

7. Awkwardly introducing yourself because they can't believe you actually showed up

8. Negotiating on pricing because we're serious

9. Staying overnight in a local lodge where you eat two suppers because you didn't eat all day

10. Returning to Nairobi where you try to figure out if you can pack them in your luggage or bring them DHL to ship back to the states

But you know what? It's all worth it. Just. You. Wait. ❤️
