Meet The Maker | Skermunkil
Skermunkil had humble beginnings in 2006 in an old barn in the Baviaanskloof Nature Reserve in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Marietjie Beeslaar had the company of bats and snakes and the dark, dark night while she worked on her first range of jewelry.
For her, it has always been about nature, and for inspiration she always returns to it. Her best is in the mountains and valleys of the Cape where you can get lost in the beauty of deep, dark swimming holes and the wonderful smells of mountain fynbos.
Today Skermunkil is based in the beautiful Muizenberg Village on the southern coast of Cape Town. It is a wonderfully eccentric little town filled with creatives doing all sorts of things, from graphic design to blacksmithing, making wooden surfboards to pottery. Marietjie lives and works right by the sea and the mountains. Muizenberg and its people are a constant source of inspiration.
She loves what she does and we hope you do too.
