DAY 1, Nairobi: Arrival + private transfer to the start hotel. Welcome meeting in the afternoon and group dinner.
DAY 2, Nairobi: A day exploring the less-visited spots in Nairobi, "the green city under the sun." Visit the Karura Forest for a morning hike, walk, or bike ride (your choice), with lunch at one of our favorite restaurants with the most magnificent garden. Spend the afternoon visiting some of our favorite places off the beaten path. After an action-packed day, sit down to a delicious meal.
DAY 3, Nairobi to Lake Nakuru: We'll leave the hustle and bustle of Nairobi for Lake Nakuru, with a stop at Lake Naivasha for a quick boat safari in the pristine waters of the lake in search of over 1,500 hippos and 400+ bird species that call this lake home. We'll also visit the Elementeita Weavers, a local weaving cooperative that dyes and spins its own wool on traditional looms.
DAY 4, Lake Nakuru to Ol Pejeta Conservancy: We'll spend the morning exploring Lake Nakuru, one of Kenya's most iconic safari destinations. This compact 188-square-kilometer park packs an incredible wildlife punch, famous worldwide for its spectacular flamingo displays and as Kenya's premier rhino sanctuary. The shallow alkaline lake creates a shimmering centerpiece surrounded by acacia woodlands, rocky escarpments, and open grasslands. After lunch we'll make our way to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
DAY 5, Safari in Ol Pejeta Conservancy: You'll have an early start, hoping to see the Big Five. Home to over 10,000 large mammals, including massive elephant herds, healthy lion populations, leopards, cheetahs, and both black and white rhinos. The open plains and scattered acacia trees create perfect wildlife viewing conditions with Mount Kenya's peaks providing a stunning backdrop.
DAY 6, Safari in Ol Pejeta Conservancy: This 360-square-kilometer conservancy represents conservation at its finest, successfully balancing wildlife protection with sustainable tourism and community development. Home to East Africa's largest black rhino sanctuary and the world's last two northern white rhinos, Ol Pejeta is where every game drive contributes directly to wildlife protection.
DAY 7, Return to Nairobi: We'll take our time making our way back to Nairobi, traveling along the western slope of Mount Kenya. Upon arrival, you'll have the afternoon to relax at our guest house before we make our way down south.
DAY 8, Nairobi to Maungu: Catch the 8 am train down south for the second leg of our Safari Circuit, where we'll arrive at the village of Maungu, the place we call home. You'll be welcomed with a traditional dance performance by the women of Zawadisha. You'll learn more about our microlending program during our afternoon activities, and afterwards, settle in to our charming open-air home in the savannah. You'll quickly feel at home here. Lodging at Kivuli Camp in the Tsavo Conservancy.
DAY 9, Maungu: Spend the day with the women of Zawadisha. Learn about the Neema Women's Group and learn about their tree planting and crafts, like basket making and paper making out of upcycled elephant dung (thousands of African elephants call the Kasigau corridor their home between Tsavo West and Tsavo East National Parks, so there's never a shortage of dung!). Lodging at Kivuli Camp in the Tsavo Conservancy.
DAY 10, Maungu to Tsavo National Park: Continue to Tsavo National Park, where you will enjoy an afternoon game drive. Keep your eyes peeled for the Cape buffalo, elephants, giraffe, and lions. Lodging in Tsavo National Park at a safari camp.
DAY 11, Tsavo National Park to Diani: Rise and shine with your last morning game drive before continuing to the coast. Hop on a train to Mombasa and continue to Diani: "A flawless, long stretch of white-sand beach hugged by lush forest and kissed by surfable waves" - Lonely Planet.
DAY 12, Diani: Full beach day because YOU EARNED IT. Opt to hammock, visit the sacred forests, or take an eco-tour at the Colobus Conservation.
DAY 13, Diani to Nairobi: Our time together has come to an end. You can add on extra days at the coast, catch a flight from Diani to Nairobi, or take the train back.
